The 14 hallmarks of aging — and how CyanthOx™ addresses them
What are the hallmarks of aging?
Aging progresses through interconnected biological processes called the hallmarks of aging:
• Primary hallmarks that initiate damage: genomic instability, telomere attrition, epigenetic alterations, loss of proteostasis, and disabled macroautophagy.
• Antagonistic hallmarks that begin as adaptive responses but become harmful when chronic: cellular senescence, mitochondrial dysfunction, and deregulated nutrient sensing.
• Integrative hallmarks that manifest at the system level: stem cell exhaustion, altered intercellular communication, chronic inflammation, dysbiosis, extracellular matrix changes, and psychosocial isolation.
Oxidative stress links many of these processes. Excess reactive oxygen species (ROS) damage DNA and proteins, impair mitochondria, drive senescence, and amplify inflammation. Restoring redox balance and mitochondrial efficiency can improve multiple hallmarks at once.
Why CyanthOx™
CyanthOx™ — The Strongest Plant-Based Antioxidant
Derived from sea buckthorn polyphenols (proanthocyanidins and flavonoids), CyanthOx™ targets multiple hallmarks with clinically proven and science-backed effects.
• Clinically proven: supports stem cell activity, delivers potent antioxidant/anti-inflammatory effects, and protects the gut against dysbiosis.
• Science-backed: enhances mitochondrial function in cellular models (↑ membrane potential, ↑ ATP).
• Exceptional antioxidant capacity: ORAC 895,281 μmol TE/100 g (≈9× grape seed extract; ≈2× French maritime pine bark).
• Clean, versatile profile: 100% plant-based and vegan; no additives/solvents; fully water soluble; stable across temperature and pH.
How CyanthOx™ tackles the hallmarks
Antagonistic hallmarks
Mitochondrial dysfunction — science-backed
Outcomes: +69% mitochondrial membrane potential; +91% ATP production (in vitro).
Impact: More efficient mitochondria reduce ROS generation and support cellular repair.
Cellular senescence
Outcomes: In aging human dermal fibroblasts, CyanthOx™ increased cell viability by 64% and boosted type I collagen.
Impact: Helps limit senescence burden and preserves extracellular matrix integrity.
Deregulated nutrient sensing
Mechanism: By reducing oxidative and inflammatory stress, CyanthOx™ supports insulin signaling and balances the AMPK–mTOR axis. Sea buckthorn bioactives activate AMPK–PGC 1α–Nrf2, promoting mitochondrial biogenesis and antioxidant defenses.
Primary hallmarks
Telomere attrition
Telomeres shorten with division, driving senescence when critically short. Sea buckthorn (omega 7–rich oil) increases telomerase activity and supports skin and lipid profiles via membrane, antioxidant, anti inflammatory, and growth factor pathways.
Genomic instability and proteostasis
Strong antioxidant and mitochondrial support reduce oxidative DNA/protein damage and ease repair demands.
Macroautophagy
Improved redox status supports efficient autophagic flux and cellular housekeeping.
Epigenetics
Lower oxidative and inflammatory tone aligns with healthier epigenetic patterns.
Integrative hallmarks
Stem cell exhaustion
Evidence: CyanthOx™ increased circulating progenitor, mesenchymal, and endothelial stem cells by >40% in human studies.
Impact: Demonstrated enhancement of repair capacity and tissue maintenance.
Chronic inflammation (“inflammaging”)
Outcomes: TNF α −33%, IL 1β −33%, IL 6 −57%, VEGF −29%.
Impact: Lower inflammatory tone supports vascular and metabolic health.
Dysbiosis
Outcomes: Superior protection in ulcer prevention/healing models versus comparators (amoxicillin, sulfasalazine, ranitidine); human data support mucosal comfort and barrier support.
Impact: Stronger gut barrier and balanced microbiota reduce systemic endotoxin load.
Extracellular matrix changes
Outcomes: Increased type I collagen in aging fibroblasts.
Impact: More resilient dermal and connective tissue architecture.
