Dr. Hywel Yuen, Founder and Chairman of Puredia

We are delighted to share that our chairman, Dr. Hywel Yuen (Yuan Murong), was invited to give a speech on “Omega 7 – The Next Global Nutrient” at CNIC2018 hosted by Herbridge on 06/11/2018. The summary of the presentation is as follows:

Unsaturated fatty acids are generally classified into Omega 3, Omega 6, Omega 7, and Omega 9 according to the position of the unsaturated double bond.

Omega 3 has long been known in the nutrition community, and in recent years Omega 7 has gradually become more recognized. It also has many health benefits like Omega 3, and some of them are even better than Omega 3. At CNIC 2018, Dr. Hywel Yuen (Yuan Murong), chairman of Puredia, predicted that Omega 7 will be the next global nutrient.

The Uniqueness of Omega 7

Palmitoleic acid is the most common Omega 7 in nature. It has strong and unique health benefits and is a new member of the health food market. Harvard Medical School also applied for a patent for palmitoleic acid. Dr. Hywel Yuen said that Omega 3 fatty acids combine with anti-inflammatory molecules in the human body to enhance anti-inflammatory effects. However, Omega 7 has a completely different mechanism of action: it acts as a signaling molecule to help promote coordination between body fat and muscle tissue. Research from Harvard School of Public Health has shown that Omega 7 can act as a lipid hormone (Lipokine), which helps stimulate muscle insulin to promote glucose metabolism and inhibit fatty liver formation. This special feature allows Omega 7 to connect to distant body tissues to ensure optimal energy utilization and storage. This is why Omega 7 can help improve metabolic syndrome in multiple areas.

Omega 7 Improves Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome is a major cause of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. Symptoms of metabolic syndrome include high blood sugar, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia (high triglycerides and low high-density lipoprotein), hypertension, central obesity and chronic inflammation. Although chronic inflammation is not academically classified as a standard metabolic syndrome, it is still widely regarded as the fifth major syndrome of metabolic syndrome.

Estimated by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), the incidence of metabolic syndrome is about 25% of the world's population and the prevalence increases with age. Omega 7 can help reduce insulin resistance, hyperglycemia and increase Bcl-2 (anti-apoptotic gene) to protect β cells. Omega-7 can also help significantly reduce the mRNA expression of adipogenic gene such as SREBP-1, FAS and SCD-1, inhibiting new adipogenesis. Moreover, Omega 7 can help increase the appetite suppressant hormone CCK, increasing satiety, reducing appetite, thereby supporting weight management. Omega 7 also has strong anti-inflammatory effect, as it can help reduce the phosphorylation of NF-kappaB and inhibit pro-inflammatory cytokines.

In a 60-person randomized double-blind clinical trial, Omega-7 was shown to reduce low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Apart from that, data from another animal study showed that the plasma insulin in mice with type 2 diabetes was significantly reduced after four weeks of Omega 7 ingestion.

Puredia, a Premium Omega 7 Supplier

Based on the various health benefits of Omega 7, Omega 7 is mainly used in the following areas: firstly, it is used for metabolic syndromes, including cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes and obesity; secondly, it is used for anti-aging, It can repair skin cells and stimulate mucous membrane regeneration, help to synthesize natural collagen. Thirdly, it is used for daily food nutrition. By incorporating Omega 7 into daily life, it can help prevent diseases such as metabolic syndrome and provide energy supplementation.

Although fish oil and macadamia nuts contain Omega 7, sea buckthorn is the most abundant plant source of natural Omega-7. Sea buckthorn fruit oil can provide up to 35% (Tibetan sea buckthorn to 40%) Omega 7, which is three times more than that of macadamia nut oil. In addition, seabuckthorn contains a variety of active ingredients such as vitamin A, B complex, C, D, E, Omega3, 6, 7, 9 and so on. These bioactive nutrients can coordinate and support each other to achieve synergistic effects, greatly improving the benefits to the body.

Puredia is the world's largest supplier of organic sea buckthorn. It is also an enterprise integrating research and development, production and operation of health supplements and foods. The sea buckthorn of Puredia comes from an altitude of 3000 meters above sea level, known as the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, also called “The Third Pole of the World”. The special natural environment such as strong ultraviolet radiation, large temperature difference between day and night (up to 40 °C), thin air, etc., make the plateau plants' physiological, biochemical and metabolic patterns different from those in low altitude areas.

Due to sufficient sunlight exposure and long daylight, various active substances in the plant can be fully synthesized. Moreover, as the night is short and low temperature, the plant consumes less nutrients. Therefore, plateau plants tend to have higher nutritional value than low-altitude areas. For sea buckthorn, the contents of vitamin C, organic acids, flavonoids, sugars, and soluble solids in seabuckthorn fruits are all 1-2 times higher than that of low-altitude areas. The concentration of Omega 7 can be as high as 40%. Through our advanced purification technology, Omega 7 concentration can be further enhanced to 50% or higher.

The company has 23,000 acres of organic certified wild sea buckthorn farm and an international standard factory on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The safety and effectiveness of all our products are strictly monitored. Different active ingredients were extracted from the natural organic sea buckthorn to create a series of health supplements and ingredients.

Puredia’s Technology

Utilizing the natural resources in Tibet, Puredia aims for preventive health care, caring health from daily life, and ceasing the traditional concept of taking medicine only when sick. Puredia’s technologies include:

  1. Formulation: By mixing the oil extracted from different parts of sea buckthorn (such as sea buckthorn seed oil, sea buckthorn fruit oil) with other oils such as goji berry seed oil and perilla oil, the resulting formulation can achieve a more comprehensive nutrition profile and be used to target specific health indication.

  2. Microencapsulation technology: By applying our advanced microencapsulation technology, Omega 7 fatty acid becomes soluble in water. As a result, water-soluble Omega 7 can be developed and Omega 7 can be more easily integrated into daily life.

  3. High-concentration Omega 7: By using our advanced purification technology, the concentration of Omega 7 can be enhanced to more than 50%. Hence, lower dosage can be used to achieve effects shown in clinical trials.
