Addressing Obesity: Omega 7

A significant rise in obesity and overweight has been observed since COVID, fueled by stress, overeating, and increased sedentary times. Recent data has shown that 16 states in the US have obesity rates of 35% or higher. Omega 7, a new Omega that was first discovered by Harvard University in 2008, is believed to help address obesity and overweight.

Recent research has shown that Omega 7 may help to increase our metabolic rate and thus promoting weight loss. It helps inhibit the fat formation and enhance lipid metabolism, by downregulating lipogenic mRNA expression. (Cao et al., 2008) Moreover, Omega 7 also helps to stimulate insulin action and promote glucose metabolism. (Yang, Z.H., 2011)

 

Apart from that, Omega 7 may help to increase satiety by stimulating the release of satiety hormones, cholecystokinin, reducing food intake significantly. (Yang, ZH., 2013) In addition, Omega 7 is a powerful anti-inflammatory agent. It was shown to reduce C-reactive protein, an inflammatory marker, by 44% in a clinical trial (Bernstein et al., 2014).
